Alumni Update

This is officially my first blog post and it will be long so feel free to take breaks, digest it, print it off and read it on the toilet, etc, When I asked Corey if I could write an Alumni Update little did i know i would get an entire blog to myself so i am a bit overwhelmed but i hope you like it and if not then you can complain to the almighty "web Master." Any way here goes the official Alumni Update.

Alumni Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As break is upon us many of you current DFDC members are probably wondering whatever happened to the likes of Noble Schernermermerhorn, Dan “Girth” Bailey, or Big Mike Eisenberg? Others of you and the freshmen are probably not asking these questions because you are unaware of the legends of Nick Gillhouse, Mateo Cervacio, or Yusef, whose last name I cannot remember and I don’t feel like looking it up in old race results, the kid who made churros that were unreal.

Anyway with all this free time I have on break I decided to use some of it to compile the info that I knew about DFDC alumni, if I did not include someone, messed-up or missed some information too bad, jk just post it on the boards and i'll correct it, so without further adieu the alumni update in the particular order that I think of people.

-Colin Johnson 08: the lanky kid with blonde hair known for his blazing 800 speed continues his running career at Augustana College, a hotbed for DFDC alumni. After putting in a solid cross season look for Colin to be sub 2:05 indoors and knocking on the 2:00 barrier outdoors in his patented event, Colin will also be racing the 1500 and the steeplechase?

-Chris “DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaad” Sally 07: this avid Barack Obama supporter also has continued as a harrier at Augie. Chris like Colin is more suited to the middle distance events but toughed out a cross season that should pay dividends in the spring. Look for Chris to be around if not under the two minute mark in the 8 and sub 53 in the 400. Chris is studying to be a high school math teacher and coach.

-Dan Bailey 06, the runner with the most range in DFDC history and great success in high school has gone on to run very competitively for the the Vikings of Augustana. He has been a varsity runner there for three years (not sure but at least 2) and has an 8k XC PR of 25:02 (five minute miles for 5 miles). He has also torn things up on the track running a 31:0x 10k. Dan has a girlfriend too. Cool. For those of you who don’t know Dan won regional and conference xc titles and qualified to state. In track his senior year won the 2 mile and mile at indoor conference and put on arguably the greatest DFDC performance of all time winning the deuce, 800, and 1600 at outdoor conference that same year. Dan qualified to state 3 times in the deuce and placed 18th his senior year. He also had a pr of 51.9 in the quarter :0.

Sergei McNulty 07: this three year varsity xc and 2 time all-conference runner has gone on to the University of Iowa to study youth education. Sergei has shifted his athletic pursuits to that of Ultimate Frisbee, he is a starting D-line handler and plays with the rage of 1,000 dragons on the Iowa team, which has a creative name which I can’t remember. Sergei's antics will be forever missed by the DFDC, especially his running naked through the halls and getting dysentery on the Perimeter of Pain.

Kevin Kelly 05: Keeping with the Frisbee theme, Kevin after tearing up the track his senior year by leading the team with points and hurdling and triple jumping really fast and far, has since gone to Kansas University to study Frisbee and play business? Kevin is an all-star and Captain of the KU horror-zontals (BA name) ultimate team and is probably the best player to come out of the DFDC farm system.

Mike Albert 06: I haven’t herd much from Mike lately but that’s probably because he is just living it up in Cali. This fearless 2005 xc captain, creator of the beautiful DFDC poncho which Sergei has horded for himself, is a student at USC and is on the Frisbee team there and does stuff that Californians do. And he now has a beard to stay warm for the winter.

Noble Schermerhorn 07: Noble after having an incredible high school career including 3 trips downstate highlighted by his 11th place finish in xc in 2006, highest of any DFDC member ever, went on to run at U of I. Noble has since left the team, but continues to study business and train in Campaign mixing in some triathlon training.

Matt Cervarich 06- Matt was a two year xc captain, flag bearer and legendary leader of the DFDC. Matt was 2xtop 7 and ran in the 16:40s he also ran an obscene amount of miles. Matt has gone on to run at Valparaiso University where he has been a solid contributor to the crusaders in the 8k in cross and 10k on the track. Matt is a really funny guy and loves to beef it, come over to billy's basement sometime this week and chances are you will find matt there, getting huge.

Ed Thome 08: Ed goes to Illinois Wesleyan, that is all I know about Ed.

Jordan Bell-Masterson 08: JBM has continued as a collegiate runner at Grinnell University in Iowa. After putting in 2 500 mile summers in high school Jordan had a good first season running the 8k for the (insert Grinnell’s mascot here). Jordan will also be running track this year for the first time in his career after participating in gymnastics in high school, look for him to do bad things to the 10k.

Mark Roman 08: Mark is of course at Missouri University where he is still training hard and studying occasionally. Mark is part of the running club for the tigers and participated in 3 xc races this fall unattached. Romeo will continue his pursuits on the track and will still think he can run a 10.9 in the hundred meters. Mark was an all-county, all-conference, and all-area cross country runner in high school and ran a 2:02 800 on the track.

Chris Voll 08: Though only DFDC for one year it was a great one for Chris he was the fifth man on the xc team and anchored the resurgent 2008 8:06 4x8 in 2:00 in no man’s land. Chris has gone onto Kansas and continued to run as well as play Frisbee? Chris recently competed in the Chicago Marathon (BALLA) and finish in 4 hours thirty minutes, not bad for a guy who had only started distance running the summer of 2007.

Scott Freidlander 08- As most of you known Scott has gone on to Brown University in the nation’s smallest state. He had a very solid freshman season running a PR at the New England Championships of 26:15 and finishing 8th on his team at the Ivy League Conference Heptagonal, just missing competing at NCAA Regionals. Scott did all this while tackling a challenging Ivy League class load and the inability to read, which just goes to show where hard work will get you. In high school Scott was all-state in cross country (21st) and ran a 9:19 in the deuce and finished 13th at state in that discipline. YEY SCOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kurt Reichenbach 07- Cool guy and the Burrito Champ from 2006, I honesty have no idea what Kurt has been doing or where he goes to college, but he might still work at Baskin Robins over the summer.

Burke Kronenberger 07- After breaking five in the 1600 his junior yeat Burke settled into a more relaxed lifestyle of loving the Cubs full-time. He now attends The University of Vermont, or Vermont University (I don’t know which) where he skis among other things.

Sean Jacobs 07- Sean went on to Indiana University where he studies business full-time.

Bryan Wool 07- Bryan also goes to Indiana where he is studying film or business and is probably making leeway with the ladies.

Chad Carlstone 07- Chad goes to Columbia in Chicago and is studying film. He still has a fro and has been running as well as playing drums for a band and his church. For those of you who don’t know it was Bryan and Chad who made all the cool team videos from the 2005-2006 seasons. L

Brian Roehl 07- Big Roehl goes to U of I and is in the engineering program and is a genious.

David Pierce 05- After running a 2:04 in the 800 and winning DECA Universe in high school, Pierce when to UW Madison where he studied hard and had a great time. D motha fxxking P (self-proclaimed nickname) has graduated a year early and is now applying to Medical School.

Nick Gillhouse 05- Nick was a Captain and flag Bearer in 2004 and ran 4:34 in the mile. Nick now studies at Illinois State University and is looking to go into some sort of athletic education I believe. Nick still runs recreationally and can be seen over the summer mowing the lawn in front of his house on Deerfield road shirtless, but I think he is moving :(.

Sam Fishman 06- Fish was plagued with injuries during his high school days but was still a part of the 2006 All-County 4x8. Sam now attends ISU and plays ultimate and has fun on the weekends.

Daniel Wolf 06- Waniel like Chad goes to Columbia to study film, he is the one responsible for the terror strike film footage and for getting 10 people arrested.

AJ Novasad- AJ was a 2006 graduate and avid Frisbee player/triple jumper/ Manhattan Project coordinator. Apart from looking like a dinosaur AJ attends Indiana University and plays Frisbee there.

John Grotheer 06- John attends Valpo and rumor has it he still can do the raptor run (merely rumor). John has been on and off with his beard as well as his girls and has even been seen with bright blonde hair!?!?!?! John no longer sprints or runs but still plays Frisbee I think.

Curt Hanson 06- Curt is still playing basketball, he is the lead scorer for the Division III school of UW Platteville and has even smoother jumper than in high school (don’t ask me how I know). Reportedly he is still dating long time GF Maddy Quiley and is still a BAMF. In high school Curt ran a 2:03 half-mile and was right around 16:00 in cross and was 4th in conference his senior year.

Joe Grotheer 08- After scorching a 51.7 (split) his senior track season in the 4x4 JoGro has gone onto Depauw where he has joined a fraternity. Joe is following many of his 2006 DFDC brethren in playing frisbee and has little idea about what he is majoring in. Joe is still tall as many of you remember him and his one liners (or one worders) have gotten even funnier.

Ryan Thompson 08- Rhino was a hurdler and all around cool guy who toughed out XC in the fall which significantly helped his work on the track. Ryan has gone on to Northwestern University and has long hair again after testing both extremes.

Ross Zimmerman 05- Is really nice and goes to Michigan thats all i know i probably shouldn't have even posted this cause none of you know ross but yeah.

Jon Scheislenger 04- I dont know as much about jon because i never went to school when he was there but what i do know is that this legendary 2003 XC captain has graduated from UofI in the spring and capped off the summer and with a bike tour across the nation and back while raising thousands of dollars for cancer research. Jon in his day was a 10:10 2 miler and ran in the low 16s for cross. When i last saw him at conference this year he told me he was working at a Northbook bike shop doing what loves, Jon is the coolest guy ever.

Mike Eisenberg 06- Big Mike was a pretty big character, his high school highlights include cutting the course at Maine East (the entire finishing loop in front of the school) to finish way higher than he should have with a minute PR and then giving out a tribal scream, eating an entire box of cheerios before every meet, being afraid of the track and running in lane 8 for all of his SI workouts, and quiting the team to lift weights and try out for basketball. Mike now attends the University of Arizona, and has moved with his family to New Jersey, and still has that 100 watt smile, look him up on facebook it you have the time.

Adam Simkowski 06- Simko was a stud pick-up from the La-Crosse team, he saw the light and started training hard the summer of his junoir year and after a year of solid work Adam, previously a JV guy, saw himself as a 16:30s top 7 runner in cross and running a 2:06 half mile in terrible conditions in March on a stress fracture. Adam now attends Purdue where he is looking to go into the airline industry or something to do with flying and he too plays frisbee.

Joe Sullivan 08- Joe's only real note worthy performance as a high schooler was 4:25 1600 (in bad conditions) and an 18th place finish in state in that race, he also broke 2 in the 800. Joe was two time captain in xc, a flag bearer, and an all-around cool guy who got injured constantly. Joe now attends the Univestiy of Chicago (not UIC) in Hyde Park where he has no idea what he wants to do with his life and is eager for visitors (dont worry Hyde Park is a nice area on the south side and i gurantee you will be fine just ask Barack Obama its most famous resident.) Joe had a terrible first XC season but looks to bounce back with solid performances on the track, look for him in the 1500 and 800 and maybe even a 5k.

Joe Stein 06- Joe was the 2005 xc burrito champ downing 3 big boys before upchucking into a bag which broke flooding fresh vomit all over EL FAMOUS. Joe has become wiser these days at Cornell University where he is studying engineering. Joe only ran cross for two years but was a solid contributor as a hurdler for 4 years on the track.

Ben Blumenthal 06- In high school Blu ran 2:11 as a freshman and 2:09 as a soph in the half mile and was varsity top 7 in cross his junior year but was literally slowed with injury problems in his final seasons. Ben has gone on to U of I to study business and is a member of a fraternity. Ben can be seen as the star in the terror strike films.

Jeff Glickman 06- Glickman was a solid JV contributor in cross his junior and senior season's, his only years of cross, but had a greater impact on the track where he was the leader of the sprint crew and excelled for 4 years. Jeff also attends Illinois and is a member of the same frat as BLU. He is also in business there and owned anyone and everyone at DECA.

Mike Eckhart 05- ???????????????????????????????

Nick McConnel 02- Nick was a solid JV guy in high school and was the creator of the flag which he did bear with honor for 2 years. I cannot recall where Nick went to college for some reason the Ivy Columbia comes to mind but don't quote me on it. But I am told he now works for NASA and is literally a rocket scientist.

Nate Stopps 02- Nate was a varsity runner in high school and also wrestled. He went on to Bulter University where ran for four years and then joined the armed forces and remains active in Iraq. Nate recently was injured taking shrapnel to the neck but is reportedly okay.

Judd Kiddie 03- Judd was a captain and flag bearer and all around awesome guy. He graduated from ISU where he was president of the cereal club, Judd also has organized an anunal film festival and reported is working at the OG and sports a goatee.

Keep in mind it writing this i just wrote what about the alumni that popped into my head and what i can remember about them, and there maybe some minor fabrications but that's journalism, thanks for reading if you have made it this far. Also i am sorry but i dont know too much about the alumni before my time so they kind of got stiffed.
